First and foremost, cancer sucks, a lot. Anything and everything we can do to better ourselves and work for a solution to fight and eradicate cancer is an endeavour worth fighting for!

Enter: Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Month. This is a very important month dedicated to communities coming together to improve awareness and raise money to help organizations across the country. These non-profits (and some for-profits) are fighting tooth and nail to find a quicker end to this life altering condition.

Some of these groups requesting your support are definitely more deserving than others. I would encourage you to research any organization you plan on donating towards. There are plenty of websites out there like charitynavigator.org that delve into the ranking of charities working to prevent and cure breast cancer. Have a look and find one that aligns with your vision.

Preparing for BCA month is key. Thinking ahead and streamlining art + garment combos and promotions will keep it easy for your customers. Preparing some common themes with ribbons, shades of pink, special fonts & phrasings will all come in handy when your customers begin requesting more BCA-style jobs. Having a few printed samples on hand will really help your customers visualize the potential of these creations. Keeping it streamlined means less setup, and more printing.

Offering a promo, a reduced price, or even working pro bono for a local non-profit will definitely be a major deposit into the karma account, but it could also be a way for you to tell your community that you support the cause. Don’t shy away from including your logo or messaging on a sleeve or back collar. This isn’t just a means of advertising your business, it shows that you’re with the community and are doing your part to raise awareness! Consider who else is in support of the event or organization. Reach out for their logo or branding and try to make a connection with everyone involved. This is a great opportunity to consider pro bono work and how it might have a positive effect on your business. You never know what new connections or possible tax benefits you could uncover with some pro bono partnerships!
