Screen Printing for Aspiring Musicians
As many people know, Ryonet started from a love of music. The very first shirts made by Ryonet’s CEO were made in an effort to promote his punk band over 10 years ago. This is a fitting backdrop, as Josh Wells (one of Ryonet’s own) stepped up last week to help out the local Youth Music Project print some t-shirts of their own.
“The Youth Music Project’s mission is to provide outstanding rock, pop, and country music education for youth by offering free or low cost lessons, free instrument use, and exceptional performance opportunities.”
Josh Wells says he was contacted by a friend of his who works at OSI about the opportunity. ” She told me of their need. Basically they had at one time had someone who new screen printing, however that person didn’t work there any longer. I made contact with Rachael. She conveyed that they pretty much needed immediate help. So went down and did a quick training.” Josh Wells was able to join this year’s Classic Rock Camp during their T-shirt design and printing process, helping students from the beginning of the screen printing process to creating the final products. This process involves multiple steps and having an experienced teacher there can make all the difference for screen printing success. “He was not only friendly and encouraging while my staff was learning how to screen print but he was also very professional and helpful throughout this process,” says Rachael, who serves as marketing director for the camp.
These completed shirts will be worn onstage in the kid’s final performances at the end of the week. This year, thirty kids, ranging from ages 5-13, attended the music camp for a week. They spent their time “learning the processes behind basic chords, drum beats and vocals in classic rock style while practicing rock and roll basics like keeping time, performing with others and perfecting stage presence.”
